Bill Renc |
Artist's Biography Born in 1949, Bill Renc is a 1970 graduate of Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. He has made his living as a freelance artist since 1971. His drawings, paintings and intaglio prints won numerous awards at juried art festivals from Florida to the Midwest during a twenty-year period of 1977 - 1997. He was a founding member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA).
Since 1995, as co-owner of The Painted Fish Gallery, Bill has concentrated on the Florida landscape. Having spent much of his childhood immersed in the coastal landscape, fishing and drawing, he still loves marine life and it creeps into his artwork quite often. He co-wrote and co-illustrated At Water's Edge: The Birds of Florida. Currently he works in both oils and watercolor. Bill also produces high-quality limited edition giclee prints of his paintings.
By commission Bill has created original artworks to commemorate special events such as the City of Dunedin's Centennial, Abilities of Florida's Annual Wine Tasting & Auction, Clearwater Folk Arts Festival, Taste of Palm Harbor, and St. Petersburg's 2005 First Night Celebration. His most recent commissioned project, which he designed with his wife Linda for WMNF Community Radio in Tampa, incorporated six of Bill's original watercolor paintings reproduced in ceramic tile wall murals. He has completed several other tile murals for private clients. |
Artist's Statement "I know that at the top of my list is the passion to create. In doing my work, I bring into play a fusion of imagery ideas and I use my materials to the best of my ability. Always I have found that the natural environment in this part of Florida gives me what I need to tell the visual story."

Linda Renc |
Artist's Biography Having begun her career in 1980 exhibiting at outdoor art festivals and juried exhibitions, Linda is a co-owner of The Painted Fish Gallery where she shows original calligraphic artworks, handmade books and prints. Linda specializes in fine art calligraphy, exploring creative use of traditional art media including watercolor, drawing, mixed media, paste papers, and paper marbling combined with lettering. She has been commissioned to produce the calligraphic text for several published books including At Water's Edge: The Birds of Florida. Currently she is working on illustrated passages for a new book by Linda Taylor on women writers associated with Florida. In 2006, Linda and Bill designed a series of ceramic tile wall murals for WMNF Community Radio in Tampa, incorporating calligraphy and watercolor to display donor names throughout the building.
Linda earned a B.A. degree in Graphic Design at the University of Illinois in 1970. She was originally self-taught in calligraphy, but since has studied with many U.S. & British teachers. Her artwork reflects their influence, especially calligraphic artists Thomas Ingmire and Dick Beasley. She has studied most recently with Sally Mae Joseph, Susan Hufton, and Christopher Calderhead of the Saint John's Bible Project. Linda learned traditional bookbinding and produces her own handmade calligraphic artist's books.
A motivator for calligraphic education, Linda has brought many national calligraphy and book arts instructors to the St. Petersburg area for lectures & workshops, and has coordinated member exhibitions for the Florida Gulf Coast Society of Scribes. She teaches ongoing calligraphy classes at The Dunedin Fine Art Center, and has conducted calligraphy workshops in Orlando and Sarasota, Florida and at Arrowmont School in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Recently she helped organize Florida Scribes Experience 2007, a statewide event in Bradenton, Florida which included a week-long manuscript book workshop and museum trip. |
Artist's Statement "I believe that calligraphy is more than beautiful writing. It has become an expressive artistic medium of its own. As a calligraphic artist, I practice not only discipline in letterforms, but also employ composition and color sense, along with drawing and painting skills. I enjoy the interpretation of words which gives calligraphy its unique spiritual flavor, and I believe this is why it holds a special place in the visual arts."
